CNN's Piers Morgan: Obama Should Talk to Boehner

By    |   Tuesday, 08 October 2013 10:45 PM EDT

CNN's Piers Morgan had harsh words for President Barack Obama on Tuesday because of a long news conference at which Morgan said nothing was accomplished.

"And he could have used that time, to me, to much greater benefit to the American people if he just sat in a room with [House Speaker] John Boehner until they got an agreement," Morgan said.

"I listened to the president today for 90 minutes giving a press conference in which he refused to talk to any television journalists, talked to a random bunch of print hacks. He went on and on," Morgan said. "It was one of the longest drones I think I've ever listened to. And at the end of it, nothing. Nothing actually happened. Nothing was achieved. All he did was inform us why nothing's happening."

Fox News Channel's Brit Hume said on "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren"  and on Twitter that network news reporters generally ask tougher questions. Obama called on none of them.

Morgan said that only 10 percent more Americans blame Republicans for the government shutdown and the debt ceiling standoff, though "some of the Republicans, like Ted Cruz, have been absurdly intransigent" by tying defunding of Obamacare to the budget.

There comes a point, however, when the president of the United States has to "be the big guy," Morgan said. "Get in the room and do business."
