George Floyd's brother Philonise, reacting to the guilty verdicts Tuesday that found former police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of murder and manslaughter, said he can celebrate justice for his family, but remains acutely aware that other families are still waiting to be able to do the same.

"I'm feeling tears of joy, so emotional that no [other] family in history got that far," Rodney Floyd said on MSNBC, according to an account in People magazine.

Referencing other Black families making the case that police excess has cost them loved ones, he added: "This right here's for everybody's that been in this situation. Everybody."

Chauvin, 44, was found guilty Tuesday of all charges he faced — second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree murder — in the death of Floyd, 46, last Memorial Day.

In video footage that quickly went viral and triggered worldwide protests over perceived racial injustice, the officer could be seen kneeling on Floyd's neck for about some nine minutes while Floyd lay facedown on the pavement with his hands cuffed behind him.
