Duck Dynasty's Robertson: Convert ISIS or Kill Them

By    |   Wednesday, 03 September 2014 07:50 AM EDT

Phil Robertson, the outspoken patriarch of A&E’s “Duck Dynasty” clan, appeared on The Sean Hannity Show Tuesday night and said the terror group the Islamic State (ISIS) needs to convert to Christianity or be killed.

“In this case you either have to convert them, which I think would be next to impossible … or kill them,” Robertson told Hannity. “Maybe that time has come and gone. I think with this ideology were faced with, this is like street gangs, street thugs on steroids.”

Story continues below video.

There are “no rules with these people,” he said, characterizing the situation as “worldwide gang warfare with a group that’s well armed and well organized.”

Robertson, who was briefly suspended from his own show earlier this year for making homophobic comments that were published in a GQ magazine article, sat on Hannity’s set with his Bible in plain sight. He quoted scripture about evil and Satan before Hannity asked him about the Islamic State and its evilness.

“All who hate me, love death,” he quoted from Solomon. “You scratch your head and say why is it when we’re not even over there in the Middle East, why do they continue to slaughter each other when we’re not even on the premises? They can’t blame us. We left Iraq.”

Robertson’s remarks came the same day the Islamic State released a video, since confirmed as authentic by the U.S. government, of the beheading of 31-year-old American journalist Steven Sotloff, the second American journalist to be killed by the group in the same manner. Last month, the group released a similar video of the brutal slaying of reporter James Foley.

President Barack Obama commented on the incident from Estonia, where he is meeting with Baltic leaders before leaving for the NATO summit in Wales later this week, according to USA Today.

"Whatever these murderers think they've achieved by murdering innocent Americans ... they have failed," Obama said.

The killing of Sotloff' “would only serve to unite Americans,” he said.
