The Hillary Clinton e-mail saga is not a hot topic of discussion among Democrats, according to the results of a new survey.
The Pew Research Center poll results show that 16 percent of Democrats are following the story "very closely," compared to 34 percent of Republicans — an 18-point difference.
Clinton was found to have used a private e-mail address during her time as secretary of State under President Barack Obama, a deviation from the usual practice. Typically, government employees — especially those serving in cabinet head positions — use a secure government address.
Clinton opted to create a separate address, the server for which was located at the family home in Chappaqua, N.Y.
Other reports say there were multiple e-mail addresses created on the server. Clinton is considering a run for president next year but many critics now think she should forgo those plans because of the e-mail scandal.
The Pew survey took a barometric reading of other news stories as well, including
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech in front of Congress last week. The results show that 34 percent of Republicans surveyed paid close attention to the speech and its aftermath, while just 18 percent of Democrats did so.
More Republicans also admitted to paying close attention to the
Boston Marathon bombing trial (19 percent to 15 percent) and U.S. economic news (30 percent to 27 percent).
Democrats came out on top in two stories: the most recent
Supreme Court case surrounding the Affordable Care Act (26 percent to 22 percent) and the
Department of Justice report on race and policing in Ferguson, Mo. (30 percent to 24 percent).
A significant number of blacks surveyed — 42 percent — said they paid close attention to the DOJ report on Ferguson. Further, 46 percent of liberal Democrats also followed the news of the DOJ report closely.
