A 95-year-old World War II veteran from Oregon has survived coronavirus after proclaiming, "I survived the foxholes of Guam, I can get through this Coronavirus bull****."
Bill Kelly, who lives with his granddaughter Rose Etherington and her family, had a low-grade fever and did not feel well March 15, The Oregonian/OregonLive reports.
He has several medical issues — kidney disease, a congenital heart condition, high blood pressure — so he stayed overnight in the hospital, but felt better the next day and went home.
But Etherington's husband, Isaac, who is medical evacuation pilot, suggested he be tested for COVID-19, and the test was postive.
Kelly finished his 14-day quarantine Monday, along with the rest of the family, all of whom tested negative.
The family felt bad because they had to leave Kelly confined to his room and avoid him when he came out wearing a surgical mask.
"It was seven days where we treated the poor guy like a leper," Isaac Etherington said.
According to a Facebook post by his granddaughter, Kelly's advice is "Always be grateful. Thank God continually for what he has blessed you with. Don't get caught up in the peripheral things of this earth, because everything can disappear, just like that. Family is most important. Stick together, take care of each other."
