Hailing his administration's response to the global coronavirus pandemic — as his opponent almost entirely focuses its campaign on that issue — President Donald Trump told Newsmax TV, the worst is behind us.
"We've come up with great therapeutics and cures and all sorts of things," Trump told Wednesday's "Greg Kelly Reports" in an exclusive interview, noting the mortality rate is declining and survival rates are going over 99%.
"We've come up with things that are amazing. The job we've done is incredible, and now the vaccines are coming out. We're rounding the turn, but most people, 99-point-something percent, if you get it, you get better. I got better."
Trump hailed the monoclonal antibody cocktail by Regeneron that he used in his own rapid COVID-19 recovery, which he has vowed to make available to hospitalized patients for free amid the pandemic.
"But I also had the help of a drug, Regeneron, which I think probably helped," Trump told host Greg Kelly, stopping short of calling it a "cure" after suggesting that last week. "Who knows, right?
"All I know is I got better very quickly, and I feel very good. Really good, totally negative. And I guess you have immunity for a certain period of time too."
Trump noted having the antibodies built up to fight off the COVID-19 infection is positive news, pointing to China as having "sent" the virus to the world.
"But I have immunity, I guess, you're immune to the terrible disease sent to us by China," Trump said.
The president also hailed the sharp economic recovery amid the coronavirus shutdowns as making the country stronger.
"The stock market's ready to hit new highs again," he said. "Can you believe it? In the middle of a pandemic. We're rounding the turn.
"Now what we're doing is we're building it back, stronger than it would have been —actually stronger."
