Embattled Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber already has lost his job as an adviser to Vermont's state healthcare system, but a state Senate leader wants his pay revoked as well.
State Senate Minority Leader Joe Benning, a Republican, took part in the effort to have Gruber's $450,000 contract revoked.
That effort reportedly succeeded last week, but Benning said Monday on Fox News Channel's
"Your World with Neil Cavuto" that he has yet to see the paperwork to verify it.
The contract states any termination must be in writing and executed by both sides, Benning said, adding that he is trying to find out if those documents exist.
Gruber has been paid $200,000 for work already performed, but Benning said he can't verify exactly what type of work that was.
Gruber submitted two invoices on September 3 and October 16 of this year, Benning said, but there was no itemization of work. Each contained three sentences seeking $50,000 for work done by Gruber and $50,000 for his research assistants, but otherwise were "almost devoid of content," Benning said.
As a trial lawyer, Benning said he always specifies what he did for clients when working hourly.
"These invoices do no reflect that, and that's very disturbing to me," he told Cavuto.
Gruber has been under fire since videos surfaced of him saying the Affordable Care Act was purposely written with vague language to ensure its passage.
