'Stop Obamacare' Billboard to Dominate Times Square

By    |   Wednesday, 11 September 2013 12:51 PM EDT

New York's Times Square will become home this week to a massive billboard campaign warning against the effects of Obamacare.

The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, has bought a six-story billboard with the message, "Warning: Obamacare may be hazardous to your health."

The billboard encourages people to get more information by texting the word "HAZARD" to 33733.

The public campaign follows the conclusion of a nine-city "Stop Obamacare" tour paid for by the organization's lobby group, Heritage Action for America.

"The 'Stop Obamacare' tour played to packed houses everywhere we went, from Wilmington to Indianapolis, from Pittsburgh to Dallas," said foundation President Jim DeMint in a statement announcing the massive billboard. "We thought it was time to move to a bigger stage and bring the message to a wider audience."

DeMint said he expects the campaign to strike a chord with New Yorkers and tourists from across the country.

"The groundswell of opposition to Obamacare is not letting up," he said. "Our billboard campaign lets citizens know there is something they can do to stop this disastrous law and put our nation back on a path to real economic growth and responsible budgeting."

The 90-by-676-foot billboard will be on 42nd Street between 7th and 8th avenues. It will remain there through late October.
