Sununu: Obama's Response to Libya Attack Incompetent

By    |   Friday, 28 September 2012 10:27 AM EDT

President Barack Obama has failed miserably in his handling of the killing of four Americans in Libya earlier this month, says former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu, a surrogate for the campaign of Mitt Romney.

“An administration as a whole is responsible for what happens on its watch, unless he wants to tell us that the buck doesn't stop there,” Sununu told Greta Van Susteren of Fox News Thursday night.. “This president has failed to maintain respect for the United States in that part of the world. And respect is one of the great assets you have in trying to protect your diplomats around the world.”

The White House initially said the Libya attack came in response to an anti-Muslim video posted in July, rather than as a planned terrorist act that included al-Qaida.

So did the administration’s action represent incompetence, lying, or a cover- up? “I think it's all three,” Sununu said.

“I think it's incompetence. I think it is a fact that they have policies there that don't work. I think it's lying. He goes to the U.N. and says video, video, video, after his own people, before he went to the U.N., had begun to acknowledge that it was a terrorist attack. That to me is just disingenuous. What is puzzling is what they could possibly have thought they would gain by going through this. I think that just reinforces the incompetent component.”
