The website for the National Republican Congressional Committee was hacked Sunday, transferring would-be readers to Viagra and Cialis advertisements for erectile dysfunction.
The hack was first announced by BuzzFeed at 9:28 a.m. Sunday. As of 2:00 p.m. Sunday, the links to the ads were still present on the NRCC website,
The Hill reports.
Also on Sunday, the pro-Assad Syrian Electronic Army claimed responsibility for launching a weekend hijacking of the E! News Twitter feed, resulting in a message being released to the network's 5.2 million readers claiming singer Justin Bieber to be gay.
Last month, that same group hacked the Associated Press, putting out inaccurate news on its Twitter feed that the White House had been bombed, injuring President Barack Obama.
As for Sunday's attack on the NRCC, it affected readers who typed "nrcc.org," into their browsers, but not those who typed out the web site's full address — http://www.nrcc.org/.
