A survivor of the Parkland, Florida, mass shooting — and conservative gun rights advocate — says Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas assured him the Second Amendment "won't be touched."
Sixteen-year-old Kyle Kashuv tweeted the jurist's vow beneath a picture of himself with Thomas on Thursday night.
The remarks come in the wake of a March op-ed in The New York Times by former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment.
"[T]he demonstrators should seek more effective and more lasting reform," he wrote. "They should demand a repeal of the Second Amendment."
Kashuv, a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, does not believe gun control is the best way to end school violence, and supports increasing school security and expanding background checks.
