President Joe Biden called for unity and it will soon be time to hold him to his word, according to Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., on Newsmax TV.
"If Joe Biden is serious in what he said today, which is he wanted to bring unity to this country, it means he has to work from the middle, and that means reaching out to Republicans as well," Malliotakis, House assistant minority whip, told Wednesday's "Rob Schmitt Tonight."
"And with the margin being so thin between the majority and minority in the House of Representatives, he has an opportunity to actually work with us to move this nation forward, to get our economy back on track, to defeat this pandemic, to make sure we get a transportation infrastructure package.
"We've got to stop with this attempt to moving our country toward socialism."
The notion of Republicans following the Democrats' Trump-era resistance and obstruction playbook is not an option, the House freshwoman told host Rob Schmitt.
"We need to be the bigger people here and ensure that we're not going to do what they did to our President [Donald] Trump," she said. "We're not going to disrespect the office the way they disrespected President Trump and the lies and impeachment and all that they did for those four years to just serve as impediments to stop this president from having success.
"At the end of the day, as a proud American, I want nothing more than to see our country succeed."
