NEW BERN, N.C. — Two brothers have been sentenced to federal prison time for helping their father plan to carry out terrorist attacks against the U.S. military and other targets.
Zakariya Boyd, 22, was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in federal prison and his 25-year-old brother, Dylan, was sentenced to eight years.
Both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide support to terrorists, which carried a maximum of 15 years in prison. Both cooperated with prosecutors and apologized for their actions before sentencing.
Federal prosecutor John Bowler told Judge Louise Flanagan that the brothers were isolated and controlled by their father, Danie, and his radical anti-American views.
The Boyds were among eight men who raised money, stockpiled weapons and planned for jihadist attacks against American military targets and others they considered enemies of Islam.
