NBC News Chief Medical Editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman was allegedly seen in public near her New Jersey home
— despite a voluntary quarantine prompted after a cameraman she worked with tested positive for Ebola, a local news website reports.
Snyderman allegedly was spotted sitting in a car outside a Hopewell, N.J., restaurant while a man with her went inside to pick up a takeout order,
Planet Princeton reported, citing one reader's observation.
The site was founded by journalist Krystal Knapp as an online forum
for issues relating to Princeton.
Snyderman, who lives in Princeton, tweeted Oct. 2 that she and her news team were "self-quarantined" after the freelance cameraman was diagnosed in Liberia, where they were covering the Ebola outbreak.
and that she was headed home the following Sunday.
Quoting what it said was a letter from NBC News President Deborah Turness, the website quoted the network official noting "Dr. Nancy" was to be in voluntary quarantine for 21 days.
"We are also taking all possible measures to protect our employees and the general public," Turness wrote, according to website.
"The rest of the crew, including Dr. Nancy, are being closely monitored and show no symptoms or warning signs. However, in an abundance of caution, we will fly them back on a private charter flight and then they will place themselves under quarantine in the United States for 21 days
— which is at the most conservative end of the spectrum of medical guidance."
The website reported Snyderman is not under any kind of mandatory quarantine order by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the state because she's at a "very low risk of contracting Ebola. Any confinement is voluntary."
The infected cameraman was hired last week to be a second cameraman for Snyderman, who was with three other NBC News employees on assignment in Liberia reporting on the Ebola outbreak, the site noted.
Ashoka Mukpo came down with symptoms Oct. 1, and subsequently
tested positive for the Ebola virus. He's now being treated at a Nebraska hospital.
Neither Snyderman nor NBC News commented to the website about its story.
