Ahmed Shihab-Eldin, an adjunct professor at Columbia University, said on CNN Monday that "an element of racism and bigotry" is behind verbal attacks on the Muslim faith.
Shihab-Eldin, who was born in California and is of Palestinian descent, made the comments on the show "New Day."
"I think it should be said that there's an element of racism and bigotry when we talk about what Bill Maher says sometimes, or what certain people say when they say, 'This reflects on all Muslims. This happens to much,'" Shihab-Eldin said. "This is something that has been driven by the fact that the media, not just the news media, for better or worse since 9/11, has kind of adopted this Bush doctrine of painting Muslims as inherently evil. It happens in news and it happens in entertainment, unfortunately."

Newsbusters reports Shihab-Eldin said last week that Fox News and other media outlets were putting "an unfair burden on Islam" in the wake of the Paris terror attacks two weeks ago that left 17 people dead.
The incidents in Paris, along with the
recent arrests of other suspected terrorists throughout Europe, have sparked new terrorism fears.
And reports say there are several locations in European cities where
police do not patrol because they are generally controlled by Muslims.
The Islamic State (ISIS), which continues to pose a terror threat, is apparently looking to spread its jihad message
through a 24/7 TV channel.
