President Donald Trump's ban on people coming to the United States from countries with a terror presence stinks of "pure evil," NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote in an opinion piece.

Jabbar, who was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1995, argued in The Hollywood Reporter that Trump's order from last Friday is irrational.

"For civilized societies, the absence of reason and compassion is the very definition of pure evil because it is a rejection of our sacred values, distilled from millennia of struggle," Jabbar wrote.

"President Trump's Muslim ban continues this challenge to our suspension of disbelief because we can find no rational motivation for the scary creature's horrific actions. His ban cites 9/11 as its rationale, yet the ban doesn't include any countries that those hijackers came from (nor any countries that Trump does business with)."

Trump's order suspended all people from seven countries — Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen — from entering the United States for 90 days. The order also halted the U.S. refugee program for 120 days and the Syrian refugee program indefinitely.

Jabbar also called out Vice President Mike Pence, who said one year ago he was against any sort of a U.S. ban on Muslims. Trump's order is a broad action that includes people of all religions from the seven countries affected.

"Now he applauds Trump's unconstitutional religious discrimination," Jabbar said of Pence. "Alternative facts? Or just a terminal case of brown-nosing. It is part of the administration’s contempt for the American people that they believe they can continually lie to us and we, including even former Trump supporters, will not fight back."
