Poll: 52 Percent of Americans Still Feel Effects From Recession

Just over half of Americans said they still feel the effects of the recession from 10 years ago, a Morning Consult poll reported.

Among the poll's results:

  • 52 percent said the Great Recession in 2008 still impacts their personal finances.
  • 57 percent of those whose income is between $50,000 and $100,000 believe the recession still impacts their finances.
  • 68 percent said the recession continues to have significant or somewhat of an impact on the U.S. economy.
  • 51 percent blamed politicians "a lot" for the recession, while 22 percent blamed politicians "some" for it.
  • 49 percent blamed big banks "a lot" for the recession, and 23 percent blamed big banks "some."
  • 26 percent believed banks have become somewhat more responsible since the recession, while 27 percent said they did not know or had no opinion about that.
  • 37 percent of those polled were somewhat concerned that a recession will happen again, while 28 percent were "very concerned."
  • 35 percent said they save "somewhat" more since the recession.
  • 31 percent said their financial health was fair and 32 percent said their financial health was "good."
  • 11 percent said their financial health was "excellent."

The poll's results came from two polls conducted in late March and early April, which each had a nationwide sample of 2,201 adults and a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
