Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, is defending MSNBC’s Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough and the widow of one of the former congressman’s staffers after President Donald Trump continues to publicize unfounded allegations surrounding the woman’s death.

“I know Joe Scarborough. Joe is a friend of mine. I don't know T.J. Klausutis. Joe can weather vile, baseless accusations but T.J.? His heart is breaking. Enough already,” Romney tweeted Wednesday morning.

Romney didn’t call out Trump in his tweet, but he was referencing the president’s repeated claims that former congressman Scarborough was involved in the accidental death of Lori Klausutis in 2001.

On Tuesday, Lori’s widower wrote a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, asking him to remove tweets the president has made about his deceased wife. Twitter refused to take the tweets down.

Trump continued to attack Scarborough on the social media platform on Wednesday tweeting: “Psycho Joe Scarborough is rattled, not only by his bad ratings but all of the things and facts that are coming out on the internet about opening a Cold Case. He knows what is happening!”
