A Missouri representative is pushing legislation that would make it a felony for state lawmakers to file bills that would limit the rights of gun owners — a bill he admits has no chance of passing.
"I filed [it] as a matter of principle and as a statement in defense of the Second Amendment rights of all Missourians," Republican State Rep. Mike Leara said in a statement, according to the
Livingston Daily.
"I have no illusions about the bill making it through the legislative process, but I want it to be clear that the Missouri House will stand in defense of the people's constitutional right to keep and bear arms."
Leara filed the bill after Democratic State Rep. Rory Ellinger introduced legislation to make residents who own semi-automatic rifles take the weapons out of state or surrender them to police.
Rep. Charlie Norr, a Democrat, told the Springfield News-Leader that Meara’s bill was “like the most absurd thing I’ve heard in my life.’’
