New Michael Moore Film Opens With Personal Box Office Low

"Where to Invade Next," the latest release by Michael Moore, has set a new career low for the liberal filmmaker for a box office opening, garnering a paltry $2,912 per theater average, the Hollywood Reporter notes.

The previous per-theater low for a Moore film opening was attained by 1998's "The Big One," which earned $4,452 per theater in 1998, the Reporter states.

In the new film, Moore "invades" European nations in an attempt to steal ideas he says can make America a better nation.

It opened with a gross of $897,034 from 308 theaters over the weekend, the Hollywood Reporter's Pamela McClintock writes.

"It's the per-theater average, and not the opening gross, that is the true gauge of success for Moore, since all of his films, save for Fahrenheit [9/11], have opened in a limited number of locations before expanding," McClintock states.
