Michael Brown, a senior at a high school in Houston, Texas, was accepted to 20 universities across the nation, including four Ivy League schools, and was offered full rides to all of them, The New York Times reports.
Brown, 17, was also awarded about $260,000 through scholarships he sought outside of the application process.
“He actually earned it,” said Berthinia Rutledge-Brown, Michael’s mother. “I always knew Mike would get into a good school. I always knew he’d get good scholarship support. But I never imagined this.”
He applied to college with a 4.68 grade point average, an SAT score of 1540 out of 1600 and an ACT score of 34 out of 36. Brown was also on the school debate team and worked with several political campaigns.
In college, he wants to study political science and then earn a law degree. Eventually, he’d like to work as a lawyer and run for political office.
“Be helpful. Dream big. Don’t be afraid,” Brown told a local TV station. “Be proud of your family, love yourself, love your community and then share your story. Inspire other people to really reach for the stars and achieve their dreams.”
