MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police say one of their officers and another person have died from their injuries in a shooting at a hotel in the middle of the city's crowded entertainment district.
Officer Timothy Warren, a patrol officer with the department since 2003, died at Regional Medical Center, said Police Director Toney Armstrong.
Warren was among several officers responding to a call at the Doubletree Hotel around 7 p.m. Sunday. A civilian also was shot and later died in what officials said started as a domestic dispute. A suspect is in custody.
The hotel sits at a busy intersection adjacent to the historic Peabody hotel and the Memphis Redbirds minor-league stadium, where a game was being played and July Fourth fireworks were planned afterward.
