Matt Lauer might be eying a comeback following his ouster from NBC's "Today" show last November amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
Lauer, once NBC's highest-paid star at a reported $20-$25 million per year, was seen at an Upper East Side restaurant, lunching with Mitch Modell of Modell's Sporting Goods, the New York Post reports.
"Lauer is said to be testing the waters for a public comeback by coming out of hiding from his Hamptons home," the newspaper wrote. "With his marriage to Annette Roque now over, he's ready to restart his life, pals say."
Lauer had been terminated after the network received one detailed complaint from a colleague about "inappropriate sexual behavior." In a statement, NBC News chairman Andrew Lack said "we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident."
Lauer has won 10 Emmys and two Peabody's in a career that started at CBS in the 1970s with later stops at Bloomberg and Sony Music.
