Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said he is surprised at the extent of the opioid crisis — but opioids are peddled illegally on the social media platform, CNBC reported.

Searching on Facebook for the names of some of the most commonly prescribed pain medications pointed to multiple vendors illegally selling Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Percocet, and other similar drugs, the outlet reported.

The content is easy to find — if you know what you are looking for, CNBC reported.

For example, CNBC reported, if the names of various opioids are followed by the phrase "for sell," information will be readily revealed than by typing "for sale" instead.

According to CNBC, Facebook apparently relies on users to police the site for these illegal drug sales, rather than devoting it own staff for the task; in its last earnings call, the company said it would hire up to 20,000 people next year for "safety and security," the outlet reported.

"Anyone can report content to us if they think it violates our standards," Facebook said in a statement to CNBC. "People can flag pages, profiles, individual content, and/or comments to us for review."
