Marist Poll: Few Voters Swayed by Trump's Virus Response

The coronavirus could wind up being an issue in the 2020 presidential election, but few voters think it will be a major influence when they fill out their ballot, a new poll found.

A new Marist poll found a third of people said the coronavirus will either be a major influence (14%) or minor one (20%), while 64% said they have already made up their minds. 

The poll found 44% overall approve of the way President Donald Trump is handling the coronavirus pandemic; 89% of Republicans, 40% of independents, and 11% of Democrats agree.

In the breakdown of voters who weighed in on the influence the pandemic would have on their vote, 20% overall say the coronavirus pandemic will be a minor factor that could influence their decision; 18% of Republicans, 27% of independents, and 14% of Democrats agree.

Just 14% overall say the pandemic will be a major factor that could influence their decision; 7% of Republicans, 15% of independents, and 16% of Democrats agree.

The phone poll, which was conducted from April 21-26, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
