Miss Louisiana USA: Most Young People Don't Appreciate Military

By    |   Thursday, 12 June 2014 06:37 AM EDT

Miss Louisiana USA, Brittany Guidry, says she wasn't worried about whether her opinion on the trade of five Taliban leaders for a U.S. soldier would be popular. She just wanted to say what was on her mind.

"I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and we shouldn't judge them for it," Guidry said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity."

Story continues below video.

Guidry was asked about the controversial trade made for the freedom of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl during the Miss USA pageant on Sunday. She said she was happy for Bergdahl to be free after five years of captivity in Afghanistan, but questioned whether the five Taliban members should have been freed from the Guantanamo Bay military prison.

She agreed with host Sean Hannity that most young adults don't appreciate the sacrifices made by the military but said her family has a military background.

"I had five uncles serve in World War II. By brother was in the Air Force," she said. "I'm a huge advocate for the USO. And I really do believe in their slogan: Until Everyone Comes Home."
