Kenan Thompson of "Saturday Night Live" fame will host the White House Correspondents' Dinner in April, while fellow comedian Hasan Minhaj will serve as the night's entertainment, it was announced Tuesday.

The WHCA posted a bulletin on its website ahead of the April 25 event that's held every year.

"Kenan and Hasan are two of the most engaged and engaging entertainers in America. I'm thrilled they'll help us celebrate the role of a free press in our democracy," ABC News White House correspondent and WHCA president Jonathan Karl said.

"We're looking forward to a lively evening honoring the most important political journalism of the past year."

Thompson got his start on Nickelodeon and has been a "Saturday Night Live" cast member since 2003. Minhaj is a stand-up comic and hosts the Netflix show "Patriot Act." He performed at the WHCA dinner in 2017.

The president has historically attended the annual gala, but President Donald Trump has skipped it in the first three years of his presidency. It's not yet clear whether he will attend this year.

Trump frequently bashes the media and has labeled it the "enemy of the people" and routinely calls reports critical of his administration "fake news."

Comedian Michelle Wolf drew criticism for her 2017 stand-up routine at the dinner, which resulted in several people walking out. Among her targets was Trump, then-White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, and White House counselor Kellyanne Conway. Sanders and Conway were both in attendance.

The 2018 dinner did not include a comedy act following the strong backlash to Wolf's appearance.
