White House counselor Kellyanne Conway says CNN is on the skids, trashing its ratings as having already "plateaued" with viewers.
In remarks to The Hollywood Reporter, the fast-talking ex-pollster and former Trump campaign manager weighed in CNN's third-place finish in prime-time in the first quarter of 2018 — and its "clash model," in which pro- and anti-President Donald Trump adherents blow up at each other.
"While it is clear that CNN has decided it is better for ratings and revenue to be reflexively anti-Trump, it appears those ratings have plateaued," Conway told the Hollywood Reporter. "They should either own or rethink the business model of 24/7, nonreflective invective."
While the three major cable news networks have all benefited from the nonstop news cycle of the Trump White House, one unnamed TV executive told the Hollywood Reporter that CNN has not gained as much as it should have.
"They have real problems," the source said. "They're getting killed by MSNBC, and not by a new lineup on MSNBC, either."
Fox News was No. 1 in prime-time viewers, according to Nielsen data released Tuesday, followed by MSNBC, the Hollywood Reporter noted.
