More than 100,000 people have signed a petition placed on the White House website seeking to deport pop star Justin Bieber back to his Canadian homeland, reaching the threshold needed for the Obama administration to respond to it.
The petition was created last Thursday,
reports Politico, the same day the pop star was arrested in Miami on suspicion of driving under the influence, resisting arrest without violence and driving without a valid license.
In the petition, the posters say the "dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing" Bieber threatens public safety and is a "terrible influence on our nation's youth."
Bieber, who police found with others during an
alleged drag-racing set up through a Miami residential neighborhood is free on $2,500 bond after making a court appearance.
Bieber's fans have responded with petitions of their own on the White House website, urging President Barack Obama to allow the singer to remain in the United States. However, they're not gathering as much support. As of Wednesday morning, the two petitions to keep Bieber in the country had reached just under 2,000 signatures combined.
The president may not be so quick to deport the pop star, however. He met Bieber during White House events, and even helped a young fan who had lost her father in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorism attacks meet the singer in 2011.
