Jon Stewart, former host of "The Daily Show," does not understand why no one challenged President-elect Donald Trump on his campaign slogan: "Make America great again."
"The thing that struck me odd about this election — and maybe I just missed it — was nobody asked Donald Trump: what makes America great?" Stewart told "CBS This Morning" on Wednesday.
"What are the metrics?" he asked.
But Stewart expressed faith in the American system.
"I don't believe we are a fundamentally different country today than we were two weeks ago," he said.
"The same country with all its grace and flaws, and volatility, and insecurity, and strength, and resilience exists today as existed two weeks ago. The same country that elected Donald Trump elected Barack Obama."
Stewart questioned whether Trump's election was actually a victory for the GOP.
Trump is "not a Republican," but a "repudiation of Republicans," he continued. "But they will reap the benefit of his victory . . ."
"I will guarantee you Republicans are going to come to Jesus now about the power of government," Stewart added.
"I feel badly for the people for whom this election will mean more uncertainty and insecurity. But I also feel like this fight has never been easy."
