(Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now")

The chaotic confirmation process for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh could potentially fuel "all kinds of groups" to insert themselves in the procedure "if they thought they could stop" a nomination, commentator Jeffrey Lord said Wednesday.

In remarks on Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now," Lord said future repercussions could be "a bad thing."

"There are all kinds of groups out there on the other side of this divide who would plunge into this in an instant if they thought they could stop the Supreme Court nomination," he said.

He added the revelation of sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh could "be the new rule — start going back into people's history and all this kind of thing."

"In the day and age of social media, this is beyond any one person's control," Lord said. "And all kinds of people would be going out there . . . this is a bad thing. President [Donald] Trump was right . . . this is not a good moment."
