Jared Fogle, the former Subway spokesman and convicted sex predator, was bloodied in a prison yard brawl, according to reports just now surfacing in the news tabloids.
“An inmate named Steven Nigg pushed Fogle down and then unloaded a barrage of punches to his face,”
TMZ reported, noting that the incident happened in the recreation yard at Englewood prison in Colorado on Jan. 29. Fogle’s injuries included a bloody nose, scratched neck and swollen face.
Nigg’s family told TMZ that Nigg was angry about child sex predators being housed in low-security facilities. Nigg was placed in solitary confinement after the attack.
Nigg, 60, was in the Colorado facility on a gun conviction, the
New York Daily News reported. He served time from 1976 to 1990 for an Arizona crime spree, during which he and an accomplice robbed a motel clerk, two convenience stores and a gas station. He later moved to Wisconsin and worked at a consignment shop, and was arrested after selling two guns to a private investigator hired by his stepmother, the Daily News said.
The New York Post said is repeatedly threatened and taunted by other inmates, who refer to him as "chomo," slang for "child molester."
Another inmate recently slapped Fogle and called him a "dirty child rapist," said the Post.
Fogle, 38, is serving 15 years for possessing child pornography and having sex with underage prostitutes. His earliest possible release date is in 2029,
The Daily Mail reported. Nigg is scheduled for release in 2024.
In Touch Weekly reported earlier this month that Fogle, who gained fame for losing more than 200 pounds by eating Subway sandwiches, has gained about 30 pounds just three months into his sentence.
Twitter users had mixed reactions to the prison violence.
