The Washington, D.C., school that President Barack Obama’s two daughters, Malia and Sasha, attend fed students a lunch today, the 70th anniversary of Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, that easily might be called insensitive: Japanese cuisine.
Sidwell Friends School’s website shows the day’s menu, which is headed by “Pearl Harbor Day” and lists such offerings as Teriyaki Marinated Chicken Strips, Oriental Noodle Salad, Garlic Roasted Edamame, and Vegetable Fried Rice.
One student’s parent wondered whether the menu is “a lunch that will live in infamy,” according to the Washington Post.
A school spokesman told the Post that the lunch contractor’s assignment of an Asian menu to Dec. 7 was “completely coincidental.”
