Jack Dorsey, the chief executive of Twitter, personally intervened to allow Infowars' Alex Jones and white nationalist Richard Spencer to keep their accounts on the social media network, The Wall Street Journal reports.

According to the Journal, Dorsey told an unnamed person he had personally overruled a decision to disable Jones' account last month, not long before Jones was blocked from tweeting for one week. The newspaper also reports Dorsey made a similar intervention in November 2016, telling his staff Spencer should be allowed to retain one account on Twitter after several of his accounts were removed.

In a statement, Twitter denied Dorsey was involved in either decision.

"Any suggestion that Jack made or overruled any of these decisions is completely and totally false," said the social network's chief legal officer, Vijaya Gadde. "Our service can only operate fairly if it's run through consistent application of our rules, rather than the personal views of any executive, including our CEO."
