After Wednesday's opening public impeachment inquiry testimony, President Donald Trump's inner circle feels "great about today," according Axios national political reporter Jonathan Swan.
"The White House was pretty disorganized and dysfunctional until pretty recently on this," Swan told Fox News' "Special Report.". "They've only just started to assemble a team. But they are in a strong position. They know that Republicans are in lockstep. That vote in the House, zero Republicans defecting."
Swan was referring to the House impeachment inquiry vote on hearing public testimony, where no Republicans voted in favor, while two Democrats voted against it as the only ones to break from a straight party-line vote.
"That was the big moment," Swan added. "That is when they breathed a big sigh of relief, because they'd been watching a few of these House Republicans going around and saying things and they were quite nervous that there was going to be a substantial defection in the Senate. And all signs they have at the moment are that's not going to happen."
Swan, an Australian journalist for Axios, has been widely lauded for his reliable sources inside the White House.
