Study: America's Roads Are Getting Worse

America's roads are falling apart, according to a new study.

Research from AutoInsurance.org found the percentage of roads declared to be in poor condition rose 25% from 2008 to 2017.

The Hill first reported on the study.

Other findings from The State of Federal Highways and Bridges report:

• 10% of all U.S. highways are in poor condition, which means they have an "International Roughness Index" score of 171 or higher. 59% of the roads were rated good and 31% were rated acceptable.
• 20% of urban highways in the U.S. are in poor condition.
• Every state has an average of 649 miles on federal highways in poor condition. California has the highest amount with 5,126 miles (25% of federal highways in the state), while 38% of federal highways in Rhode Island (251 miles) are in poor condition.
• Florida has the highest number of federal highway miles in good condition, 8,483. Kansas has the highest percentage of federal highway miles in good condition, 84% (7,283 miles).
• The number of bridges rated in poor condition fell from 12.1% in 2008 to 8.9% in 2017.

The study's results were published as the Trump administration and lawmakers try to piece together legislation to rebuild the nation's aging infrastructure.
