Nearly 70 percent of Americans think the country is headed in the wrong direction — just one percentage point shy of December, when 68 percent said the nation was on the wrong track. Only 23 percent think the nation is heading in the right direction, an
IBOPE Zogby interactive poll finds.
President Barack Obama’s job approval rating and percentage of voters who think he deserves reelection are statistically unchanged from the previous poll, at 42 percent and 38 percent, respectively.
Although the president had little to cheer about in the July 1-5 poll of 2,159 voters, Congress fared much worse. Just 19 percent approve of the job Congress is doing, with congressional Democrats holding a 30 percent approval rating and Republicans, 34 percent.
