Sleeping on the job may not be the best career move — just ask those air traffic controllers — but it may be the smart move in a nation of sleep-deprived workers. Just over 40 percent of workers said they would take naps during the workday if space were provided, according to an IBOPE Zogby International poll.

Respondents to the June 2-6 poll of 2,376 adults also showed that 47 percent reported not getting enough sleep. A few companies provide workers with space for naps or allow them to catch a few Z’s in their workspace, and some studies have shown that such breaks have a renewing effect.
Regardless of whether doze time is approved, the survey found that 13 percent said they napped on most days, with 26 percent acknowledging at least one nap a week. Only 21 percent said they never napped.
Of the adults polled, 42 percent said a half hour is the best amount of time to nap, and half said they had more energy after a nap. The nappers do experience guilt, with 6 percent reporting they usually felt guilty after a nap and 23 percent reporting they sometimes felt guilt.
