Howard Kurtz's 'MediaBuzz' to Debut Sept. 8 on Fox

By    |   Tuesday, 27 August 2013 02:02 PM EDT

Media critic Howard Kurtz's new show on Fox News will be called "MediaBuzz" and will debut on Sunday, Sept. 8, going head to head with his old CNN show, "Reliable Sources."

Fox announced in a press release that the one-hour show "will focus on the state of the news media in addition to the media's shaping of current events and their role in politics, while also featuring interviews with leading journalists and commentators."

Lauren Ashburn, the founder and editor in chief of the Daily Download media criticism website, will also be a contributor to MediaBuzz, according to the release.

The show will feature "Bing Pulse," which will monitor social chatter about the program, based on technology from the Microsoft unit.

Kurtz left CNN for Fox News in June after being dropped by The Daily Beast following some high-profile errors, including a claim that NBA player Jason Collins failed to tell the whole truth when he announced that he was gay in a Sports Illustrated story.

According to Politico, another reason Kurtz was let go from the Daily Beast was because he was spending too much time on other ventures, including the Daily Download, where he serves on the board.

"Howie is the most accomplished media reporter in the country," Michael Clemente, Fox's EVP of news, said in a statement after Kurtz joined the network.

"He's also a master of social media trends, information good and bad, and a veteran political reporter. Altogether, he will add even greater depth to a very accomplished team of reporters and anchors.”
