The House Intelligence Committee met Thurssday in a classified session with FBI Director James Comey and National Security Agency Director Michael Rogers on the panel's probe into Russian meddling in last year's election.

"[Thursday's] hearing provided our committee members with a valuable opportunity to ask follow-up questions from the open hearing we convened with Directors Comey and Rogers a month ago," Reps. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, and Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said in a statement.

"We remain committed to working with the FBI as they continue their investigation to ensure that no stone is unturned.

"We are currently sending out invitations for witnesses to testify and requests for pertinent documents, and look forward to the next steps of this investigation."

The statement did not indicate the nature of the classified hearing, but the chairmen said the committee looked forward to "witness interviews and an open hearing with Sally Yates, James Clapper, and John Brennan."

Yates is the former acting attorney general who told Trump officials in January former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn had lied when he denied he had discussed U.S. sanctions with Russian officials.

Clapper is the former director of national intelligence – and Brennan was the former CIA director.

Schiff afterward told Wolf Blitzer on CNN the committee did get new information about the Russian investigation from the briefing.

"We do each time we get a briefing," he said. "We want to make sure the conclusions the intelligence community reached are supported by the underlying broad data.

"We also were obviously very interested in the U.S. government response when we knew the Russians had hacked us, as well as the issue of whether U.S. persons affiliated with the Trump campaign were coordinating in any way.

"The witnesses were responsive to those questions."
