Holder to Meet With Media Bureau Chiefs

By    |   Wednesday, 29 May 2013 06:45 PM EDT

Attorney General Eric Holder will meet with the heads of several media bureaus over the next two days in the wake of controversial Justice Department probes of leaks.

President Barack Obama ordered a review of Justice Department policies regarding leak investigations, and the meetings are part of that review, Yahoo News reports.

The meetings will begin a series of discussions that will take place in the coming weeks, a Justice Department official told Yahoo News.

Holder will engage with a "diverse and representative group of news media organizations," the official said, which will include print, wires, radio, television, online media, and news and trade associations. "Further discussions will include news media executives and general counsels as well as government experts in intelligence and investigative agencies."

The official did not provide details of which media outlets will be chosen, but did say the meetings will be off the record.

Justice had been under fire for secretly monitoring Fox News reporter James Rosen and for looking into the phone records of Associated Press reporters. Both involved leaks of classified documents.

Journalists say the probes make government officials fearful of talking to the press and inhibit the press from doing its job.
