Former NFL player Herschel Walker praised Donald Trump on Monday, calling him a "great man."
"Donald Trump is a great man, great president, and I wish people can understand that," Walker told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program, noting that he played on a United States Football League team that Trump owned.
Walker was a member of the New Jersey Generals in the USFL during the 1980s.
"We've been friends ever since. We still work together on some things — well, we did before he became the big man on campus, as you may say," Walker said.
Walker, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, commented on Trump being set to attend the 2018 college football national championship game in Atlanta.
"I'm excited to see him, I'm glad he's at the game, because he loves football," Walker said.
Walker in November slammed protests by NFL players during the national anthem.
"Our flag is very special, and black lives matter, but what we should do is go to Washington after the season and protest there instead," Walker said.
