Hawaii Gov. David Ige has extended the state's mandatory 14-day quarantine for visitors to the state through the end of June, during a Facebook Live video, and has discouraged visitors from coming to the state.

Ige signed the order May 13.

"These actions are extreme, but necessary, to flatten the curve and lay the groundwork for our recovery," Ige said.

Arriving passengers to the state must fill out an order listing contact and lodging information. They must also sign an agreement saying violating a quarantine is a crime that carries a fine up to $5,000 and up to one year in prison.

A 23-year-old New York man was arrested Fridayt for violating the state's mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Tarique Peters is accused of leaving his hotel room the day he arrived and traveling around Waikīkī using public transportation. Law enforcement officials saw posts of him on Instagram holding a surfboard on a beach and sunbathing.

As of Saturday afternoon, Hawaii has confirmed 637 coronavirus cases, including 17 deaths.
