Fifty-three percent of registered voters said the House had compelling evidence to impeach President Donald Trump, but 47% said Democratic-led chamber investigators did not make a sufficient case against the president, according to poll results Thursday.
The Hill-HarrisX poll results ended strongly along party lines.
Democrats, at 83%, said evidence existed to warrant Trump's impeachment, while only 23% of Republicans agreed — as did 48% of independents.
The House on Wednesday approved two articles of impeachment, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, against President Trump.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has delayed sending the articles to the Senate for adjudication, arguing that she is waiting to see how Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and other GOP leaders outlined the process.
The Hill-HarrisX poll surveyed 1,001 registered voters Tuesday and Wednesday. The results have a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
