Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., told Newsmax TV on Friday that a “measured opening,” which Florida has begun, “is a good response” to the coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis.
“My district’s elated” by the near-return to normalcy, Steube said on “The National Report,” adding that people in Florida are “exciting to just go out, and walk around, and be able to partake in going to restaurants, and go into retail establishments. And what you haven’t seen is a spike in cases, a spike in hospitalizations for COVID-19, and a spike in deaths. So, I think a measured opening is a good response, I think we need to get back to it.”
The congressman noted that U.S. unemployment has risen to 14.7%, saying, “We need to get people back to work, and I don’t think it’s a threat to their safety or health.”
