Forty-six percent of Britons said that President Donald Trump’s visit to Great Britain next month should go ahead, compared with 40 percent who said it should be canceled, according to a YouGov poll released on Tuesday.

YouGov asked the same question before Trump’s visit last year to Great Britain, at which point 50 percent said that trip should go ahead, while 37 percent said it should not.

Other results from the survey include:

  • Forty-two percent of those polled said Queen Elizabeth II should not meet with the U. S. president, while 41 percent said she should meet with Trump.
  • In the poll last year, 49 percent said Elizabeth should keep her distance from Trump, while 35 percent said the queen should meet him. However, in 2018 Trump was on a working visit, while this year's trip is a state visit, which could explain the change in opinion since it is the queen who made the invitation and who will be the official host.
  • The percentage of Britons who want the UK government to try and work with Trump has gone down considerably. In January 2017, 51 percent of Britons thought the UK government should try and work with Trump, compared to only 32 percent who wanted it to try and keep its distance.
  • However, the latest survey shows that the number of people who want the government to work with the U.S. president has plummeted to 40 percent, while 41 percent want the government to distance itself from Trump.
