Technology titan Google faces trouble in Washington, D.C., where some of its competitors and public interest groups are barking for the Justice Department to conduct a thorough anti-trust investigation of the Internet search giant. Texas and the European Union already have initiated inquiries,
Politico reports.
The company sees “anti-Google industrial complex” working against it, a Google spokesman tells the news service. And who’s behind the campaign? Microsoft, Google says.
“We try to create lots of new technologies for consumers, and the companies and industries that we disrupt sometimes try to seek recourse in Washington,” Google spokesman Adam Kovacevich says.
“In particular, Microsoft and our large competitors have invested a lot in D.C. to stoke scrutiny of us. But our goal is to make sure that we can continue creating cool new things for consumers.”
