Google wants to make sure its employees have the home office setups they need to do their jobs remotely.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced in a blog post on Tuesday that employees would each receive $1,000 to shop for any office equipment or furniture they may need to do their jobs from home.
Pichai wrote that some employees will return to the office starting on July 6. He noted that only about 10% of the building will be occupied at any given time, and there will be "rigorous health and safety measures in place to ensure social distancing and sanitization guidelines are followed."
He said about 30% of the company’s employees could possibly return to the office in September.
He noted that people in positions that do not require a physical presence in the Google office can continue to work from home through the end of the year.
“For everyone else, returning to the office will be voluntary through the end of the year, and we encourage you to continue to work from home if you can,” he said.
Google employees were told to work from home in March to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
