Giuliani: Obama a ‘Candidate’ Rather Than a ‘President’

By    |   Friday, 28 September 2012 10:03 AM EDT

The Obama administration has covered up the fact that the recent killing of four Americans in Libya was an act of terrorism that included the participation of al-Qaida, says former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

And that cover-up illustrates that President Barack Obama is acting as a “candidate,” not as a “president,” Giuliani told Sean Hannity of Fox News Thursday night.

“It's a deliberate attempt to cover up the truth from an administration that claimed they wanted to be the most transparent in history,” said the man who was mayor of New York during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“And it's the worst kind of cover-up, a cover-up that involves our national security, a cover-up that involves the slaughter of four Americans. And maybe if they had been straightforward about this from the very beginning, maybe they could have quelled some of these demonstrations that took place afterward that also did a tremendous amount of damage.”

So why did the White House hide the truth?

“I think it's because they have this narrative that they defeated al-Qaida, that al-Qaida was no longer a really big threat,” Giuliani said. “They never say the words Islamic fundamentalist terrorism. They want to wish it away. The President was moving on to Asia. He was going to declare this a great victory for himself . . . Look, right now we don't have a president. We have a candidate.”

So the terrorist attack “intervened in their very convenient narrative,” Giuliani said. “And what they chose to do, this isn't stupidity. I spent a lot of time investigating cover-ups and conspiracies. This is a cover-up.”

Giuliani also slammed Obama for adopting a weak stance on Iran’s nuclear program. “It's absolutely frightening that the president of the United States still thinks there's room for diplomacy,” said the former mayor, who’s now a lawyer.

“Where is he living? On Mars? They don't want to negotiate with him. This has been four years of this man pathetically trying to negotiate with [Iran’s president Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad . . . Ahmadinejad wouldn't even negotiate with him without preconditions. I have a message Mr. President, they don't want to negotiate with you. They want to build an atomic weapon.”
