Democrats hold an eight-point advantage over Republicans in the generic congressional ballot for the 2020 election, according to an Economist/YouGov poll released Wednesday.

Forty-seven percent of registered voters said they intend to vote for the Democratic congressional candidate in their district in the election next year, while 39% said they would choose the Republican on the ballot. Ten percent said they were unsure, and 2% said they would not vote.

Other results from the poll show:

  • Among women, 51% prefer a Democrat, while 35% a Republican. Men favor the GOP candidate by a 45% to 42% margin.
  • All age brackets under 65 years old back Democrats, with the most significant gap at 15 points for those between the ages of 30 and 44. However, those over the age of 65 support Republicans by a 9-point margin.
  • Republicans hold a slim 4-point edge among whites over Democrats, but Democrats are preferred by blacks 78% to 8% and by Hispanics at a 49% to 39% margin.

The survey was conducted from June 16-18 among 1,200 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
